Atlas Odyssey roadmap

A summary view of the lifetime travel plan — the phases, foundations, trip rhythm, and the next shortlist that turns the bigger dream into actual routes.

Travel homeTrip list

Phases

Phase 0 — Foundations

Now / ongoing

Keep the travel operating system ready before the bigger 2027 shift.

  • Passport and International Driving Permit kept current.
  • Travel fund, cards, insurance, offline maps, and packing systems ready.
  • Remote-work and business-autopilot routines tested before long trips.

Phase 1 — India core + driving skills

Year 1–2

Deepen India and sharpen long-distance, mountain, and self-drive confidence.

  • Spiti or Ladakh as the signature Hilux Himalayan drive.
  • Kerala or Coorg for southern slow travel.
  • Rajasthan or Hampi for heritage.
  • Assam and more North-East extensions after Meghalaya, Arunachal, and Sikkim.

Phase 2 — Easy international

Year 1–3

Use visa-light countries to build rhythm before the more paperwork-heavy dreams.

  • Nepal and Bhutan are already visited.
  • Sri Lanka for Kandy, Ella, tea country, and slow scenic rail.
  • Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, UAE, and Oman for easy first circuits.

Phase 3 — eVisa heritage + landscape

Year 2–4

A wider ring of culture, mountains, deserts, and scenic drives with moderate planning.

  • Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Jordan, and Turkey.
  • Return to Japan for Hokkaido or the Japan Alps.
  • Keep seasons central: spring and autumn for most mountain and heritage routes.

Phase 4 — Big dream trips

Year 3+

Visa-heavy, high-effort trips that deserve slower planning and more budget flexibility.

  • Switzerland, Dolomites, Iceland, Norway, and New Zealand.
  • USA and Canada national-park road trips.
  • Namibia, South Africa, Patagonia, Peru, and Antarctica-level milestones.

How I choose what comes next

  1. 1. Season: go where the weather window is best.
  2. 2. Energy: choose effortless when life is heavy and milestones when there is space.
  3. 3. Visa lead time: start paperwork early for Schengen, US, and similar trips.
  4. 4. Road readiness: match the trip to driving skill, vehicle prep, and safety margin.

Foundations checklist

  • Passport, IDP, insurance, money systems, offline maps, and core travel kit ready.
  • Business autopilot strong enough for async reviews, dashboards, and light check-ins.
  • Home and dogs care planned before long stretches away.
  • Public plans stay publishable; sensitive logistics stay private.

Principles

  • Views over nightlife: mountains, coasts, deserts, old towns, and stars.
  • Drive when possible: the road is part of the experience, not just transport.
  • Go slow: fewer places, longer stays, and real connection.
  • Balance India and the wider world across a lifetime of travel.
