India Workation Road Trip — Himalaya to North-East

A long, slow Hilux self-drive across India while running the businesses light-touch. This is the full-time-travel trial run: base in connected towns, work four days, and explore the offbeat scenery on weekends.

Highlights

  • Sahyadri monsoon loops from Pune.
  • Spiti via Shimla–Kinnaur for gradual acclimatization.
  • Ladakh through Srinagar, Leh, Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri, and Hanle-style weekends.
  • North-East winter extension through Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal, and Nagaland.

Route outline

Early July

Bangalore → Pune, then Sahyadri loops from a strong work base.

August

Pune → North India → Spiti via Shimla and Kinnaur, with Kaza as a connected base.

Late August–September

Enter Ladakh gradually via Srinagar, base in Leh, and keep remote lake/high-pass drives for weekends.

October onward

Leave the high mountains before closures and move toward the North-East as the weather dries out.

Planning focus

What matters most

  • Connectivity drives base choices: Pune, Manali, Leh, Guwahati, and Shillong are work bases; deep valleys are weekend/offline only.
  • Acclimatization and road windows decide the sequence — Himalaya first, North-East after monsoon.
  • Vehicle prep, permits, postpaid SIMs, router, power station, offline maps, and recovery gear matter more than rushing the route.

Next checklist

  • Confirm Hilux service, tyres, spares, compressor, recovery kit, fuel range, and document folder.
  • Convert SIMs to postpaid before J&K/Ladakh and test router + power station at home.
  • Book calm stays with verified internet in each work base.
  • Set business-autopilot cadence, FE backlog, dashboards, and home/dogs cover before leaving.
