Ravi Satish: The Story of Our First Engineer
Ravi Satish: The Story of Our First Engineer
Every company has its origin story. Ours begins with laptops scattered across a small workspace, endless nights, and the person who believed in a dream when it was still just that—a dream.
In the early days of SPURGE RENTALS, I was doing everything myself. Servicing laptops, managing orders, troubleshooting issues—all while trying to keep a fledgling business alive. I had one or two helpers, but as orders began to pour in, I found myself drowning in work. The long nights turned longer, and I knew I couldn't do this alone anymore. I needed someone skilled, someone reliable. I needed an engineer.
That's when fate, in its mysterious way, brought Ravi Satish into my life.
A Connection Made Through Circumstance
Satish wasn't actively looking for us, and we weren't actively looking for him—at least not directly. He was a freelance mobile repair technician back then, running ads on OLX, Quikr, and Facebook, taking on projects as they came. One day, he connected with one of our staff members for a personal mobile repair. It was just another job for him, another phone to fix.
But life has a funny way of weaving paths together.
Somewhere in casual conversation, our staff member mentioned that we were desperately searching for a service engineer. Satish, it turned out, was looking for something more stable—a permanent position where he could grow. The timing was perfect. We got in touch, had a conversation, and something just clicked.
I hired him, not knowing that I was bringing on board not just an employee, but the person who would become the foundation upon which we'd build SPURGE RENTALS.
The Beginning of Something Special
Satish dove headfirst into learning everything about laptop servicing, repair, and technical support. Coming from a mobile repair background, laptops were new territory, but he adapted quickly. What struck me most wasn't just his technical aptitude—it was his attitude. He was hardworking, flexible, and possessed a quality that's rare in this world: he was genuinely happy.
I have a picture of him permanently etched in my mind—always smiling, always cheerful, regardless of the situation. Whether we were facing a mountain of work or navigating a tough problem, Satish approached it with the same bright demeanor. It's the kind of energy that doesn't just help you get through the day; it makes you want to build something meaningful.
Years later, Satish told me something that made me laugh and warmed my heart at the same time. When he first looked up our office location on Google Maps, he saw photos of our location—and there, in one of those pictures, was Choco, our office dog, who was just 3-4 months old at the time. He told me he was more excited about meeting Choco than anything else. That's the kind of person Satish is—someone who finds joy in the small, simple things.
Through Thick and Thin
Satish has been with SPURGE RENTALS through everything. He's seen the company evolve from a scrappy startup to what it is today. He's witnessed my journey—the good decisions and the bad ones, the times we grew rapidly and the times we faced crushing losses. He's seen my strengths and my flaws, and through it all, he's been there, steady and reliable.
His contribution has never been in question. He simply works well, consistently and thoroughly. But it's the moments of crisis that truly reveal someone's character.
When COVID-19 hit, the world turned upside down. Businesses shuttered, uncertainty loomed, and yet demand for our rental laptops skyrocketed as everyone shifted to remote work. We had to adapt quickly. Satish worked from a dedicated rented apartment to maintain social distancing protocols. At one point, we were operating out of my own apartment, servicing and shipping over 500 laptops for rent.
Those were intense days. We worked around the clock—sometimes day, sometimes night, often both. There were nights we'd finish so late that we'd just sleep right there, surrounded by laptops, shipping labels, and the quiet hum of exhaustion mixed with determination. We weren't just colleagues in those moments; we were brothers in arms, fighting to keep something alive that we both believed in.
Growing Together
Just as the company grew, so did Satish's life. He got married. He became a father to a beautiful baby girl. He bought his first house in his hometown—a milestone that filled me with pride. Whenever he needed help, I never asked questions. I simply helped. Because that's what you do for people who've stood by you from the beginning.
And the company has shown him the same loyalty he's shown us. We've supported his needs, his growth, his dreams. Because his success is our success. His stability strengthens ours.
Learning and Becoming
There have been ups and downs—there always are in any long journey. But through every challenge, both Satish and I have become better people. We've learned what to do and, perhaps more importantly, what not to do. We've learned from mistakes, celebrated victories, and understood that growth isn't just about business metrics—it's about becoming better humans.
Satish isn't just the first engineer at SPURGE RENTALS or the longest-serving employee. He's proof that when you find someone who believes in your vision, who works with integrity, and who brings genuine positivity to every day, you've found something priceless.
A Champion for Life
There's so much more ahead for us. More challenges to face, more milestones to celebrate, more late nights and early mornings. But I know that whatever comes, Satish will be there, smiling through it all.
He is my champion. He always will be.
To everyone reading this: behind every success story are people like Satish—loyal, hardworking individuals who don't just show up for a paycheck, but who invest their hearts into building something meaningful. If you find such a person, hold on to them. Support them. Grow with them.
And to Satish—thank you. For everything. For being there from the beginning. For believing when the vision was still blurry. For smiling through the chaos. For being you.
Here's to many more years together, my friend.
